TV Stuff...
- The CW network (UPN + WB = CW) went ahead and cancelled Everwood. Not a surprise, but I'm still pissed. Here's why: they're keeping 7th Heaven and One Tree Hill.
- Ryan and I used to like 7th Heaven for some reason, but it is morally shrill and just a plain fucking weird show. Like, the main character is a minister, but they never, ever mention Christianity. Also, the show promotes teenage marriage/parenthood, and just hates adoptive parents; they had this one episode where the minister talked a teenage mother out of giving up her kid for adoption and marrying the father, portraying the potential adoptive parents as lazy and greedy. How fucked up is that?
- And One Tree Hill is just loathesome in every possible way. The show is a 3rd-rate Dawson's Creek clone, right down to the overbearing, light-pop soundtrack. And oh, don't get me started on Chad Michael Murray, a sub-zero talent WB creation.
- He's been groomed for "stardom" by the WB for about 6 years, having significant supporting roles on Gilmore Girls and Dawson's Creek. He's the one who married his (super-hot, BTW) co-star (Sophia Bush), fucked Paris Hilton, and got divorced after 6 months, and is now engaged to a 17-year-old high school student who is an extra on the show. This motherfucker will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes. And it will come.
- Gilmore Girls had its season finale last week. The creators, Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel Palladino are leaving the show. The last couple of seasons have sucked, so I'm happy to see them go. They completely fucked up the Luke/Lorelai relationship, a slam-dunk if there ever was one, by introducing, of all things, a secret kid for Luke. Now here's the thing -- the kid lives in Stars Hollow. It's a tiny fucking town in Connecticut, and Luke impregnates this woman, how fucking plausible is it for him not to have known about this? Come on, these people are in each other's asses on the most minute shit, Luke runs a fucking diner that the whole town attends, and no one says, "Hey Luke, you remember that girl you used to date? She had a kid right after you two broke up."
- The Office had its season finale, and did it right. All the storylines from the first couple seasons were wrapped up: Michael gets a girlfriend, Jim tells Pam he loves her, etc. And there's a cliffhanger, with Jim's impending transfer. And as if you didn't need any further confirmation of his genius, Steve Carell wrote the episode.
- Scrubs also had a cliffhanger, with JD apparently impregnating his new girlfriend. This season was weird as hell. Just a bunch of goofy jokes: the Dr. Acula movie, floating-head doctor, Turk's kung-fu fight, the Todd's omnisexuality. On the other hand, it had the happiest ending to an episode ever, when Turk and Carla told everyone they were pregnant. Just watch that one, and try not to smile.
- The O.C. still sucks, although they went a long way toward fixing it with the killing off of Mischa Barton (aka the worst actress on television)'s character.
- Arrested Development is still cancelled. Fuck you, FOX.

1. 7th Heaven was cancelled.
2. They ran a "Series Finale" (obviously).
3. They promoted the shit out of the "Series Finale" (obviously).
4. The "Series Finale" got great ratings (obviously, because of the promotion + "Series Finale").
5. The simple-minded fools who run the CW said, "Wow, look at the ratings 7th Heaven gets! This can't be an abberation based on the fact that people who stopped caring about the show tuned in to the special "Series Finale"! Let's keep it, and dump the great show!"
