Just Roy being Roy...
Continuing on the theme, Roy Keane, ManU's Irish midfielder and captain, decides to smack down his Premiership rivals today:
'Without a doubt I feel I can compete with players like Gerrard and Vieira. When I feel I can't do that then I'll know.Keane, Gerrard, and Vieira are all the same type of player - ultra-agressive, defensive midfielders who can drive a team forward on their backs. Gerrard, really, was the only player worth a shit on Liverpool last year, and probably saved Houllier from getting the sack sooner than he did. Vieira provided the steel in midfield that (IMO) covered Arsenal's ultra-thin back line the past few years. (It's really just Sol Campbell back there.) I'm not too sure if I'm on board with Roy here...he'll be 33 in a few weeks, and he's slowed down considerably from his peak. But I have to love his self-belief, and I hope it translates to the rest of the squad and the Devils can lift another trophy this coming year.
'The manager was very complimentary about Gerrard and there's no doubt he is a very good player - but I still feel I am better than him and that's not being big-headed.
'You look at Gerrard last season and he didn't kick a ball for the first three and a half months. Then you look at Vieira. I always ask questions of people in certain big games and I just look at when Arsenal played against Chelsea in the Champions League.
'In the second half of that match at Highbury a lot of their players weren't there to be seen.'
